Philippians 4:5

Philippians 4:5

5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

One definition of gentleness says: Not harsh or severe; mild and soft.

Gentleness is one of the fruits of the Spirit;
Galatians 5:23 – gentleness and self-control.

Also, Jesus refers to His own gentleness in Matthew and asks that we learn His ways.
Matthew 11:29
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Think of the times where you are automatically gentle. With babies, senior citizens, or someone in pain. Now, think of the times where you are automatically angry or bristled. In my case, it’s ususally in the car when people are cutting me off and driving erratically. Those are the situations where we need to practice being gentle. Try thinking of what the other person could be dealing with. Being gentle willfully in difficult situations will, eventually, lead to it becoming automatic.
