Surround Yourself in God’s Word

Avoid all of the noise in this world. Surround yourself in God's word and experience His peace.

Caught up in Craziness

Recently, I allowed myself to get caught up in the madness on social media. I was following posts constantly, taking in and responding to all the negativity. So much so that it was causing anxiety in my life and I was losing sleep. I could feel a negative presence. It hit me that, even though I was still studying the Word, I was wasting a lot of time worrying about the things of this world. I asked God to show me what to do. He responded that I should surround myself in His Word. I decided to fast again and do just that.

I’ve posted before on how I fast. I fast from things that take me away from God. Social media and news sites. I decided to leave those alone and spend some time just absorbing the promises of God. While I worked, I had sermons playing. As I drove, I plugged in the aux cord to my phone and listened to Bible studies. I listened to worship songs. When my daughter did gymnastics, I listened to my Bible app. I studied scripture. All of this in one day. No social media, no news sites, no news at all. What a difference it made!

God’s Peace

I went to bed that night without even wanting to wind down by looking at my phone. I dropped right off to sleep. My daughter was sleeping with me and the only time I woke up was when she snatched the covers. Even then, I went right back to sleep.

I woke up for the first time in days feeling refreshed. It made me wonder why I got so caught up in the first place.

I’ve been studying Psalm 1 for a couple of weeks.

1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2

Psalm 1:2 really stuck out with me today.

but his delight is in
the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:2

Avoid all of the noise in this world. Surround yourself in God's word and experience His peace.

This is so true. I hadn’t initially started with a plan to listen to the Word all day. Just while I worked. But, when it was time to pick up my daughter from school, I wanted to hear more. When she was practicing gymnastics, I still wanted more. Before we went to bed, I still wanted more! It was an absolute delight.

Surround Yourself In God’s Word

When you surround yourself in God’s word, it’s like spending time with Him. The Bible was put together for us to know what He wants for us and what He will do for us. We get to know God’s truth, we see His blessings, we gain power and strength.

The world and its problems may still be there, but I get to see beyond that. I understand how to handle them. I see whether it’s actually a real problem or not. I have peace and a clear mind, not anxiety and confusion.

When you can, take some time and just surround yourself in God’s word. Put an app on your phone and listen to it when you can. Riding the bus or train is the perfect time to do this. Plug the phone into the car if you’re driving. Grab a few minutes, sit somewhere quietly and read the Bible or do your devotional. When you focus on God’s word, you will focus on God and not on the things going on around you.

Prayer for Today

Father, thank you for clearing my mind. Thank you for pulling me back from the confusion going on around me. I pray that you bless anyone reading this today with your peace and understanding.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
