Tuesday’s Woman of the Bible: The Faithful Woman

The Faithful Woman

The story is usually referred to as The Woman With the Issue of Blood or The Bleeding Woman but I think that takes away from the main point. The story is about a woman who bled for 12 years. In those days, women were considered unclean when they were menstruating and were shunned during that time. So, for 12 years, this woman had to go through this. But then, she heard about Jesus.

43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased.

45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.”

47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”

Luke 8:43-48 (ESV)

That woman, who’d bled for 12 years, knew that Jesus was going to heal her. Not only did she have faith in Jesus, she didn’t even try to speak with Him directly or touch Him. She touched his edge of His garment! She was happy to remain anonymous, but because of her faith, Jesus requested that she make herself known. Because of her faith, her unquestionable belief in Christ, she was healed. Praise God!

And think of it, Peter said that many people has been pressing on Jesus. I’m sure they all had needs. But this woman, whose sole focus was to be healed, pulled power when she touch the edge of His cloak. All because of her faith!

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV)

Faith is a gift from God. It has the power to heal. It will set you free from so many things. You don’t even need to touch the edge of His garment.

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
Matthew 21:22 ESV

Have a blessed day.
