Keep Focused

We should keep our sights on the path set before us. To do this, we need to keep focused and avoid distractions.

It’s Hard to Keep Focused

I have a very short attention span. It’s something I’ve dealt with a long time and it seems to get shorter by the day. Unfortunately, I am easily distracted and will completely forget what I was working on ten minutes ago. I have to work at focusing because there are so many distracting things around me and in my mind. I know that I need to keep focused, but sometimes it’s a struggle for me.

There is a lot I want to work on and a lot I want to do. One of the things I need to focus on is meditating on God’s Word more. If I have a goal in mind, it’s an easy thing to do. But once I’ve reached that goal, my mind starts to wander to other things that are waiting on me to work on or do. The following Bible verse was a part of my devotional this morning.

25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
Proverbs 4: 25 – 27 (NIV)

Missed the Deadline Again

Although I’m no longer feeling like a failure or giving up because I missed my posting deadline (Sunday morning), I still strive to be consistent. What caused me to miss it was a loss of focus. I woke up, read my devotional, and then worked on my Printables business. Directly following, I was supposed to complete the blog post I’d started and post it.

However, once I’d completed what I planned to do with the Printables business, I started looking at my list of things I need to do for that business and working on the next project. I’d completely forgotten that I needed to finish the post on this blog!

I remembered it later in the night and was a bit upset with myself about it. Then, this morning, my Devotional was about distractions. That had to be God!

I need to keep focused on His goal.

What is My Purpose

Years ago, I prayed about my purpose. I’m not good at public speaking and evangelizing. However, God showed me the things that I do well and I was led to use those gifts. I like to write, so I started this blog. I’ve helped the homeless for years, so I started seeking out more ways to help. I joined a food ministry and I started a group that does service projects throughout the year. Those are the steps God laid before me and these things should be where my focus should lie. That is my path and I need to keep that as my focus.

God showed me that I was doing things out of order. I’d already gone down the path of distractions when I chose to work on the business before doing God’s work. It was easy to become further distracted because Satan isn’t going to want me to follow the path God set before me. Working on this blog is a part of my Bible study and fellowship with God. It shows me the things that God wants to point out to me. Naturally, evil will want me to stay far away from it.

The Things Above

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things..
Colossians 3:1 – 2 (NIV)

My business is an earthly thing. I enjoy doing it, but it’s work that I’m doing solely to earn money. This blog was created to spread the Word of God through encouragement and showing how His Word is changing my life. It should be my first focus, not the business, social media, the news, or anything else.

It’s easy to say, “I need to avoid distractions.” However, it’s easy to lose your focus. Pray first before doing anything else. Ask God to show you the path or to guide you in the way that you should go. Learn to recognize the things that are causing you to lose your focus and learn to manage them. This way, you can keep focused on the path God has for you.

Have a blessed and prosperous week!
