Making Big Decisions

When making big decisions you don't have to do it alone.

Making Big Decisions

I’ve never been good at making big decisions. I’ll either jump right into it without much thought or overthink it and scare myself right out of making any decision at all. I’ve lost wonderful opportunities due to that fear. On the flip side, I have made some terrible decisions because I didn’t consult with God first. How should we go about making big decisions?

The First Step

The first thing we should do is talk it over with God. If you have a relationship with God, you learn to hear his voice. This may take time, however, and you have to really listen to what God is leading you to do. If your heart is to have the will of God, you must be willing to go where God is leading you.

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2 (NIV)

How do we know that what we hear is from God? Start by being in the Word every day. Spend your mornings talking with God and being quiet so that you can hear Him. He fills us with his Spirit and that Spirit will guide you. If the way you feel led does not seem right to you, meaning it goes against the Bible, then that may be your own desire or a negative influence. God will never lead you astray and He will never go against the Word that He gave us.

Pray Often and Seek Out Wise People

If you are unsure, continue to pray. Read the Word and ask for guidance. Things will become clear. Talk to you those that you trust and that you know are also believers of the Word. When you feel led a certain way, discuss your decision with them. Ask for their honest feedback and be willing to listen.

Do Your Research

God has given us the ability to not only speak directly with Him and read His Word but to research. Don’t make any big decision without looking into it thoroughly. Talk to people who have gone down this path already. Go online or go to the library and find out as much information as you can. Continue to pray as you go through this process.

My Motivation

I am saying all of this to you because I am preparing to make a life-changing decision in my life. These are the paths that I have chosen to take. I am praying, I am in the Word, I reached out to someone who’s made the decision that I’m considering, and I am doing all the research that I can. I want to go into this knowing that God is with me on this journey and that this decision is best for me and my child.

I hope that if you have are in the process of making a big decision, that you also choose to seek God’s will first. Talk to Him daily and throughout the day. Read the Word and listen for His guidance. Do your research so that you know all the possible outcomes of your decision. I pray that you allow God to lead you without fear or trepidation.

Stay safe and have a blessed week.
