New Year New Me?

New year new me. New day new me should be our motto.

New Year New Me?

We’ve all probably heard some form of the saying “New year, new me!” and we may have even said that ourselves. A lot of people start the new year with the best intentions, “I’m going to hit the gym”, “I’m going to eat more healthy”, “I’m leaving toxic relationships behind”, “I’m going to work on my budget”… As a matter of fact, I started the new year out by working out a new budget! Let’s hope I stick to it!

However, by February, a lot of us have forgotten the resolutions and have fallen back into our old habits. One missed day at the gym leads to two which leads to more which eventually leads to us not going. “Oh, overindulging here there won’t hurt,” turns into indulging more than we intended. “Well, I guess I’ll give them another chance,” turns into “Why and I’m going through this again?” And budget, what budget? We’ve forgotten all about our “New year, new me” motto.

What happened to our motto?

Once we’ve “messed up”, we’ve decided “Oh well, I give up. It’s too late to start over now.” The “New year, new me” motto is out of the window. But, why? It may be too late to start for the new year, but it’s not too late to start for the new week or even the new day. Each day is a new beginning. If we look at it this way, we get a fresh start every single day.

16 Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day. 17 We have small troubles for a while now, but they are helping us gain an eternal glory. That glory is much greater than the troubles.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 (ICB)

Each day is a new beginning

Whether you are dealing with something physical, emotional, or spiritual, God is there with you every step of the way. If you fall down, He is there to lift you up. One thing I have learned to do, and this was a hard lesson to learn, was to put it in His hands. I’m learning to recognize when things are just out of my control and I have to rely on God. When you rest your head at night, don’t fret over the things you didn’t accomplish that day. Instead, look forward to the opportunity to try again. Turn your “New year, new me” into “New day, new me.” Our spirit is made new every day.

Have a wonderful 2020!
