Breakthrough Prayer

Jehoshapat made a breakthrough prayer when surrounded by enemies.

Breakthrough Prayer

Have you ever heard of breakthrough prayer?  I was recently introduced to that term, however, I was already aware of the concept. I just didn’t realize what it was. At the end of last year, I was going through something that was wearing me down emotionally and spiritually. I was at the point where I was about to give up even going to church because I felt that nothing was working. I prayed daily and often throughout the day and tried to figure out where I went wrong and what I could do to fix it. However, it got to the point where I gave up trying and I would give it to God daily and ask Him to help me. I said that I had no idea what to do but I knew that He did.

Remembering a Promise

The promise that Jesus made stayed with me.

28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
John 10:28-30 (ESV)

He said that once we were His, no one could take us away. I held firm to that and it gave me hope that things would turn around.

A True Miracle

I had a miracle occur. Someone reached out to me and I still have no idea what caused them to do it or how they even got my number. But it was a very specific phone call and I knew that it had to be God. I found out later that my prayer, when I had pretty given up and thought I was going to be miserable for years, was called a breakthrough prayer.

Of course, the first thing we should do is talk to God, but we tend to try and fix things ourselves. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t and the outcome can be devastating. But, when it seems that all hope is lost, have faith in our God.

Jehoshaphat’s Prayer

When Jehoshaphat was King, he and his people were surrounded by three nations that were coming all at once to destroy them. Jehoshaphat was afraid. The Bible tells us this, so we know that it’s a natural thing to be afraid. However, Jehoshaphat prayed fasted and asked that all of his people pray and fast.

20 After this the Moabites and Ammonites, and with them some of the Meunites, came against Jehoshaphat for battle. 2 Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, “A great multitude is coming against you from Edom, from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, Engedi). 3 Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 And Judah assembled to seek help from the Lord; from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
2 Chronicles 20:1 – 4 (ESV)

In his prayer, Jehoshaphat reminded the Lord of his promises. I would suggest reading 2 Chronicles 20 to see Jehoshaphat’s prayer and what he and his people did. They trusted the Lord and proclaimed that they will stand at the temple and cry out to Him. Jehoshaphat said that the Lord would save them because it was a promise that He made to HIs people. The Lord answered his prayer and told them that they would not have to fight at all because the battle was His.

The people of Judah worshiped and praised the Lord before anything happened. They honored HIm knowing that He is the true and honorable God. The Lord caused their enemies to fight among themselves and they destroyed each other. The people of Judah were able to go and gather all of the expensive items of their enemies. Not only had the Lord saved them, but He also blessed them for their faith.

Our Faith

The Lord not only helped me and my daughter, but I’ve also been seeing His blessings pour out. Each day is a new beginning. His joy fills me each morning. I hear Him speak to me often, reminding me of His promises.

The Lord speaks through my daughter. She has said many things that you wouldn’t think a child would say and she has said many things that seemed to not make sense at the time but came true. I was worried because she hadn’t had a Word in a long time. Recently, she did and I have faith that it will come true. We have renewed energy because we’re filled with His Spirit and we call out to Him often. In the big things and the small, our Father is there.

Don’t wait until you need to have a breakthrough prayer to call out to Him. Do it often. Big or small, He is our Father and is there for us. Give Him praise, even when you don’t see what you’re looking for. God is moving you along a path in His time.

Have a wonderful and blessed week!
